How long before surgery should i stop eating? It can be anywhere from 6 hours to 12 hours. But if you are asking because you are about to have surgery, or someone in your family, I would strongly urge you to actually follow the instructions given by the doctor, not second-guess them by looking on a social media site. This is the health of your or your family member that is in question, please follow the doctor’s orders. If you did not get those instructions, make it 12 hours just to be safe, and call the doctor the minute the office opens. Or possibly call the advice nurse from your doctor’s office or health care plan, you might be able to call on off hours. |
